Animals, as part of the scenery

In this segment, I wanted to look at animals as part of the scenery. Now the first picture is an old favorite of mine, but I wanted to look at it, not just as a picture of a cayman, but as an intrinsic part of the scenery. Now with the rest of the pictures, the birds play various roles, but they form an actual part of the scene as a whole, which they complete, in their own avian way.

Costa Rica, animals as principal actors

Costa Rica is truly an animal lover's paradise. It is easy to just watch out for the animals and let them show their stuff, as in this collection. Now, not all of the creatures are big, bold and wild - some are small, timid and keep out of the way, but they mostly let you take their pictures, because they know they're the stars. As we'll see next session, though, they can also enhance the viewing pleasure by their presence.

Animals, Part one - India

Well, now, this is something of a different tack for me. We're going to look at photographing animals. First stop is India, where we find animals that mostly interact with people, and so either mimic or seem to silently comment on their human companions. You can almost tell a story with each one of the pictures, especially the 3rd and 6th pictures. And then there is the tale of the two tourists on the elephant ... Ah, well you couldn't NOT ride on one.

Warmth

Now these photos are a study in warmth, in sharp contrast to the coldness of the last set. There are multiple ways to increase the warmth of the photos taken, including the obvious inclusion of people. But there other ways as well, including picking warmer colors, but that does not explain the warmth of the last photograph, or the close up of the ancient writings - there is just something intrinsically warm about them. Anyway, here they are for your pleasure.

The Cold

Sometimes, it's the temperature of a picture that sets it apart. In this case it's the coldness around that really comes through. From our voyage to Alaska, you can tell that these were pictures of the cold outdoors. You'll notice that the color scheme is mostly blue. Next time, we'll look at warmer things.

Magic

This set of photos I've chosen, because I think they represent something magical. Either the moment is magical, or the scene is magical (or both). There's not too much else that is similar, but looking through the collection, just sit back and enjoy the moment. I think that you'll feel it too.
